    14-year-old Greensville County High School student detained after threat made on social media

    EMPORIA, Va. (WRIC) — A 14-year-old student at Greensville County High School has been detained after a threat was made on social media stating that there would be a “shootout” at all schools in Emporia, according to the county’s sheriff’s office .

    Deputies with the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office were reportedly alerted to the threat made on social media at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20.

    According to the office, “the post stated to all schools in Emporia, Virginia there was going to be a shootout, be aware.”

    The office said its deputies, as well as officers with the Emporia Police Department and Virginia State Police deputies “quickly responded to all schools.” Law enforcement and school administrators reportedly worked in conjunction and put safety measures in place.

    Investigators with the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office “quickly traced the threat back to a 14-year-old student of the Greensville County High School.”

    Officials said the 14-year-old was detained and will be charged with threats to do bodily injury on school property. They will reportedly be held in a juvenile detention center pending court appearances.

    Students and staff were deemed safe during and after the incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
