Two wanted suspects stopped while driving U-Haul stolen from Tennessee in Caroline County

CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Two people wanted on previous charges were taken into custody in Caroline County on Saturday after deputies found them in a U-Haul reportedly stolen from Tennessee.

On Saturday, Aug. 10, a Caroline County Sheriff’s deputy noticed a U-Haul reported stolen out of Tennessee moving north on Route 301. He confirmed this by running the license plate number.

According to authorities, the deputy was about to stop the U-Haul when the driver quickly pulled into a nearby driveway. The passenger of the U-Haul then fled the vehicle and ran towards a wooded area near a home.

The deputy chased the suspect and reportedly caught them about 100 yards away, according to authorities. Another responding deputy was able to detain the driver during this time.

Authorities identified the two suspected as 46-year-old Samantha L. Morris and 48-year-old Leon Ray Morris, Jr., both of Albemarle County. Each of them had outstanding warrants for petit larceny and conspiracy to commit grand larceny out of Greene County.

According to authorities, Leon Ray Morris was charged with obstruction of justice in both Greene and Caroline. Samantha L. Morris was charged with grand larceny of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property in Caroline.

Samantha L. Morris is currently being held without bond at Pamunkey Regional Jail. Leon Ray Morris was held on a $4,000 bond.
