    Richmond rated second-highest for evictions in Eviction Lab data

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond has the second-highest evictions of 30+ cities, according to data from Princeton Eviction Lab .

    Eviction Lab has been tracking weekly evictions since March 2020, monitoring the impact of the pandemic and related policies. Data shows that over the last year, Richmond has had 20,477 evictions.

    This results in 23% of evictions filed in the city per 100 households in the last 12 months, according to the data.

    In addition, the Eviction Lab findings display that 2,001 evictions have been filed in the past month.

    According to Eviction Lab, there are about 87,693 renter households in Richmond and Chesterfield County, that usually pay $1,203 a month and higher.

    When the landlord chooses to file an eviction, it is a requirement to notify tenants with at least five days of notice or more in some circumstances, as well as pay a $40 filing fee to the courts.

    Overall, from March 2020 until now, there was a total of 56,434 filings.
