CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A man from the Chester area of Chesterfield County won more than $950,000 in a Virginia Lottery game.

Virginia Lottery says Christopher Leydic matched all five winning numbers in the Aug. 17 drawing after purchasing his ticket online, which won a jackpot worth $958,740.

When Leydic saw that the jackpot in the Cash 5 with EZ Match game had reverted to the game’s $200,000 starting point, Virginia Lottery says he first thought someone else had won it.

Lottery officials say Leydic retired from the U.S. Army as a first sergeant after 21 years. He reportedly has no immediate plans for his winnings aside from saving and paying bills.

Cash 5 with EZ Match features a rolling jackpot that starts at a minimum of $200,000. The odds of matching all five numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 1,221,759, according to Virginia Lottery.
