    Many areas in Central Virginia under Flood Watch and/or Heat Advisory

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Multiple localities throughout Central Virginia are under a Flood Watch from 2 p.m. until later in the evening on Thursday, Aug. 29, along with many areas also under a Heat Advisory until 8 p.m.

    According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch means flooding in the area is more likely than on a normal day, but that flooding is not currently expected.

    The service says a Flood Watch will be in effect for the following localities from 2 p.m. into the night on Thursday:

    • Richmond
    • Henrico County
    • Petersburg
    • Chesterfield County
    • Colonial Heights
    • Hanover County
    • Louisa County
    • Dinwiddie County
    • Prince George County
    • Powhatan County
    • Caroline County
    • Amelia County
    • Goochland County
    • Fluvanna County
    • Prince Edward County
    • Cumberland County

    A Heat Advisory, meaning that the heat index is expected to reach 105 to 109 degrees, is in effect for the following areas until 8 p.m. on Thursday, according to the service:

    • Richmond
    • Chesterfield County
    • Henrico County
    • Caroline County
    • Dinwiddie County
    • Prince George County
    • Charles City County
    • Richmond County
    • New Kent County
    • Isle of Wight County
    • King William County
    • Louisa County
    • Fluvanna County
    • Middlesex County
    • Lancaster County
