BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV)—People living in Broad River Village Apartments and Abberly Apartments were left without an entrance or exit after Tropical Storm Debby flooded them in.

The shared entrance has been blocked since Tropical Storm Debby pushed into the Beaufort area. Candace Olson, a resident of Broad River Village Apartments received a text message from her complex saying that they have prevented any entry or exit through their Clubhouse Roadway and that the residents would be fined if they attempted to access it.

Olson said it is the only entrance or exit for residents to use, which means that residents are stuck. This includes emergency vehicles.

Olson said that there was at least one call to emergency services on Tuesday afternoon where the EMS fire vehicle could not drive to and had to walk to the residence.

When photographing the flooded entrance, Olson said that “the three property people were there, they said I quote, ‘the fire department was just here’ and they can’t do anything.”

Broad River Village Apartments said it would cause damage to their irrigation system, sidewalks and curbs. When Olson asked if they would allow passage tomorrow and if the main entrance is closed, they did not respond as of the publication of this article.

The message sent to Candace from Broad River Village Apartments on Tuesday.

“The entrance to the property is severely flooded and will cause damage should you attempt to drive through,” the text read.

Olson was told that Abberly Apartments owns the land for the entrance and exit. So far, Olson has not heard of anyone who has received answers on when the entrance would be open again.
