PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. (WSAV) – On Tuesday, the City of Port Wentworth and the Savannah Ghost Pirates broke ground to build their new practice facility, the Ghost Pirates Ice Cove.

This is the start of building, what Port Wentworth’s City Manager Steve Davis says, will be the largest investment the city has ever made for the community.

The original cost of the project was $25 million; however, it has gone up to $30 million.

As a joint effort that has been in the works for years between Port Wentworth and the Ghost Pirates, the team will pay the major of the cost, while the city provides the land and utilities.

Located at Anchor Park, officials say the 90,000 sq. ft. facility will feature an ice rink, restaurants and other amenities.

The facility is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
