BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV)—A woman was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Downtown Beaufort and she’s trying to identify the driver.

The City of Beaufort Police Department (BPD) said in a press release that the suspect vehicle is a gold 2005 Toyota Camry with South Carolina license plate of 9134PW.

Around 10:00 p.m. Thursday night, a Beaufort woman was leaving dinner with her friends when she was hit by a car. The car stopped for what she said seemed like a split second and took off again.

The woman said she is OK but has bruising down the right side of her body and had a “softball” size lump on her head after the hit and run.

“I’m still in shock,” the woman told WSAV. “It happened so fast.”

The woman also said that this is something that needs to be thoroughly investigated since this could’ve happened to a mother and child just as easily.

Friday morning, she contacted the Bay Street Jewelry store to try to get footage from them of the incident. They were able to provide her footage of the initial hit and footage of a few minutes after.

According to the woman, it looked like the car returned a few minutes later, possibly to see the damage they caused. She also said that her friends believe that the driver could have been texting and driving.

The BPD told WSAV’s Danielle Cobb that they don’t have any suspects as of now but have officers investigating.

The woman who was hit asks for privacy during this situation and WSAV will not be publishing her name.

BPD is requesting the public’s assistance in locating this vehicle. If you see the vehicle, please contact 911 or Beaufort County Dispatch at 843-524-2777. Or anyone with information is urged to contact Officer Taylor at 843-322-7969. To remain anonymous, please call the Beaufort Police Department’s TIP LINE at 843-322-7938 and reference case #24B34453.
