    SERG Group helps “Rays’ shine with big donation

    HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WSAV) – It’s a group that help brings some joy to special needs adults every day.

    Now a Lowcountry restaurant chain is helping to bring some “sunshine” into the lives of some of the “Rays” from Pockets Full of Sunshine, with a big donation to brighten the charity’s future.

    “We’re really looking forward to being even more of the tapestry of Hilton Head and Bluffton,” said Nicole DelMastro, Executive Director of Pockets Full of Sunshine.

    Pockets Full of Sunshine has already weaved their way into the community with their support of special needs adults.

    Now the charity’s efforts getting a boost thanks to the SERG group, and a $25,000 donation.

    “I know we can make a difference with them,” Rob Jordan, Founder of SERG Restaurant Group. “And it’s just the joy that you see when we go to events and help them. And it’s just it’s one of the great joys I have in my life.”

    The money. going toward the rehab of a new 5000 square foot facility the “Rays” will now call home.

    “We knew we needed a space of our own so that we could greater impact the community and the adults with disabilities, said DelMastro. “Having the opportunity to purchase this building and become a permanent fixture in Hilton Head and serving all of you for our county has been really a gift to us.”

    It may not look like much now. but these halls and offices will soon be filled with a little bit of “sunshine”.

    “Not only do we know will expand as far as like a quantity standpoint to be able to serve more special needs adults in our community, but also to offer more quality programing,” said DelMastro. “We’re going to focus really on life skills, on getting them community facing.”

    A community based on love, on happiness, and of course on sunshine..

    “Totally gives them great purpose,” said Carol Bartholomew, co-founder, Pockets Full of Sunshine “You know, speaking as a parent. Every day, Sally is my daughter and she just what am I doing today? Where am I going? And it’s Pockets. It not only gives her purpose and meaning, but it’s her family. “

    The SERG group donation was the biggest ever made through their “Community Strong” program.

    SERG also has a benefit set for October. Proceeds from that will also benefit the charity.

    “Pockets” is now raising money for their building rehab, which could cost upwards of $200,000. With some help they hope the facility will be ready for the Rays to enjoy in the next year.
