Human remains found, Jeff Davis authorities say

JEFF DAVIS COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – On Sunday, the Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office (JDSO) said the remains of a human were found.

Authorities say they received a call on Bennie Byrd Road, South of Hazlehurst in the Snipesville community, in reference to what appeared to be a human body.

According to JDSO, upon arrival, deputies confirmed the individual was deceased. Due to the late stages of decomposition, investigators were unable to positively identify the body at the scene.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) crime scene unit was requested to process and help with the investigation.

JDSO says the body was removed, transported and will be examined by the GBI crime lab to determine the cause of death and identify the victim.

This is an ongoing investigation and officials say more information will be released as it becomes available.
