Police: 18-year-old shot at SC McDonald’s during gun deal; gunman at large

An 18-year-old has been hospitalized after being shot in the head outside of McDonald’s, according to the Rock Hill Police Department. Police have arrested a man tied to the case but are still searching for that man’s brother, who they believe shot him.

Police said they responded to reports about a shooting at the restaurant on Cherry Road around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

At the scene, police found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to an area hospital and was listed as being in critical condition, according to police.

An initial investigation revealed that the 18-year-old was talking to some people inside a gray midsized SUV when someone in that vehicle shot him. The people in that SUV then left the scene, according to police.

According to the Rock Hill Police Department on Monday, 20-year-old Jameson Larone Dunham of Chester was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact.

Dunham’s brother is who police believe shot 18-year-old Benjamin Brown. Police said he’s still wanted.

Channel 9′s Tina Terry was in the courtroom Monday as Dunham faced charges. She learned the shooting started as a gun deal on Instagram.

“What they did, shot my son in his head and throw him out a car in a parking lot of McDonald’s,” said Brown’s mom, Dequeta Jennings.

Police said Brown met up with the suspect, Jameson Dunham, and Dunham’s brother, Jerrique, outside the McDonald’s. Brown was trying to sell a gun, they said.

“According to witness statements and video, Jerrique took Brown’s gun after he showed it to them for the purchase and shot Brown in the face,” said Taylor Englert with Rock Hill police. “Jamison knowingly assisted Jerrique in fleeing the scene by driving the getaway vehicle.”

“I don’t even think they knew my son,” Dequeta Jennings said. “He was lured to McDonald’s.”

In court, Jennings begged the judge to keep Jameson in jail for now.

“I think he don’t deserve a bond,” she said.

The judge agreed to deny Jameson Dunham bond. His brother, Jerrique Dunham, has active warrants for attempted murder. If you know where he is, call the Rock Hill Police Department.
