GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – An officer on patrol identified an individual operating a vehicle, located in the Nicholtown area, who was know to have active warrants for his arrest, Friday evening.

The suspect, identified as Marty Benjamin Miller, escalated the situation and an additional officer arrived to assist, according to officers.

Miller refused to comply with the officers’ commands and attempted to escape. He actively resisted and during the struggle, presented a firearm. Officers managed to successfully disarm Miller.

During the encounter, Miller inflicted a severe bite on one of the officers, according to officers. In response, a K9 officer arrived on scene and deployed his K9 partner.

The K9 was able to effectively subdue Miller by delivering a bite. Miller was taken into custody and officers and Miller received medical treatment.

At the time of Miller’s arrest, he had 16 active warrants for shoplifting, one failure to stop for police and one texting while driving.

Miller is anticipated to face additional charges including resisting arrest with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a violent felon and interfering with law enforcement officers, according to officers.

Two officers were taken to the hospital.
