HSRZ Preview: Travelers Rest Devildogs

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. (WSPA) – With high school football season around the corner, the Travelers Rest Devildogs are previewed ahead of the 2024 season which kicks off on August 23.

2023 record: 4-7

Head Coach: Chris Goodman, first season

• Goodman becomes the third head coach in four seasons

Key Returners:

Peyton Burns (QB), Colby Epps (QB), Luke Tankersley (LB), Dereon Collins (DL), Eli Cofield (WR/DB), Oliver Rowland (TE/WR), Xavier Hagerman (LB), Ji Wiggins (RB)

Preview:

Chris Goodman didn’t get the job at Travelers Rest until late April and the Devildogs will switch from the spread to the option on offense and to an even front on defense. Returning starter Colby Epps has battled for the top job with Peyton Burns. Eli Cofield and Oliver Rowland will be prime targets in the passing game while Ji Williams should get plenty of touches out of the backfield.

Middle linebacker Luke Tankersley is a standout on defense and linebacker/safety Xavier Hagerman should also make impact.
