CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The 2024 AAUW State College Used Book Sale saw over 7,300 shoppers this year and they made quite a bit that will be used to advance equity for women and girls in the community.

The sale was held from May 11 – 14 at the Penn State Snider Agriculture Arena and in total they made $214,296, which was a 13.5% increase from last year’s event. After the expenses to host the event have been removed, the AAUW will be left with about $164,000.

That money will be used for local community grants that reflect the AAUW mission, scholarships to returning adult women students and AAUW mission-based programs.

“The increase in sales comes from the continued generosity of people donating books, coupled with shoppers who love traditional paper book reading, which is clearly not on the decline,” Donna Trapp, the Used Book Sale co-chair said. “The sale runs as smoothly as it does due to all of the volunteers and community partners who generously provide in-kind donations.”
