CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) – Rep. Paul Takac (D-District 82) held a seminar to educate seniors about the dangers of online scams and how to prevent them.

This was part of the larger Senior Fair event aimed at giving seniors access to helpful resources. The seminar acted as a response to the growing number of scams, especially in the Centre County area.

“Fraud and scams are just a constantly evolving area of criminal activity,” Takac said.

He cited AI and other electronic scams as being particularly harmful to seniors as they are less familiar with the technology. He invited a board of experts including AARP and Centre County’s Office of Aging to give presentations and answer questions about the topic.

“What we’re trying to do is empower folks like banks to be able to be a bit more proactive in helping identify these and provide services to folks,” Takac said.
