Go Red for Women dinner, fashion show held in Blair County

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The annual Blair County Go Red for Women dinner and fashion show was held on Thursday at the Blair County Convention Center.

The event is meant to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease. It’s the number one killer in women and causes 1 in 3 deaths each year. Among females 20 years and older, nearly 45% are living with some form of cardiovascular disease.

Go Red for Women is committed to:

• Addressing inequities in science and research by championing lifesaving discoveries for women and by women
• Demanding equal access to health care for all women and their families
• Helping women find their best selves through solutions that support mental health and well-being
• Standing up for moms before, during, and after pregnancy to lower their risk of cardiovascular disease through education, resources, and support
• Increasing women in STEM in upcoming generations

Hundreds of people showed up in their best red outfits to attend this year’s event. Five women were nominated as part of the Women of Impact campaign. The campaign is focused on women’s heart health by recruiting teams and inspiring their networks to support the American Heart Association’s mission.

Together the Women of Impact nominees raised $33,000!

The Women of Impact winner, Beth Kravetz, attended the event and loved the message of educating everyone on the importance of heart health.

“I think what I like most about this campaign was sharing the information with people because cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women and not everybody knows that. Most people don’t think that. So, getting that information out — getting out the information that we can do to make ourselves healthier,” Kravetz said.

Kravetz added that the American Heart Association is something that has always been near and dear to her heart.

The Go Red for Women campaign was launched in 2004 and in 2024 continues to push for the removal of the unique barriers that women face to experiencing better health and well-being.
