NORTHERN CAMBRIA, Pa. (WTAJ) — Almost one week after Tropical Storm Debby touched parts of Central Pennsylvania, people are still faced with cleaning up the damage.

The Northern Cambria Recreation Commission and Northern Cambria Softball/Baseball board saw extensive damage to their South Complex/Ball Fields on Betts Avenue. They said this is the worst flooding their fields have ever seen.

“It came all the way up to our concession stand, took out a lot of our fencing, some of our backstops. Even one of our dugouts was damaged from fencing being ripped up. Some of us came down here Friday morning to try to assess the damage. Everything was under water. Then we did a bunch of work during the day Friday, mostly concentrating on the building until the water receded,” Candace Maree, President of the Recreation Commission, said.

Maree said they are in desperate need for volunteers and donations to get the ball fields operational in time for the school district and the 2025 ball season.

“It’s not just our town that relies on these fields to be in good shape and playable. So that’s kind of why we’re hoping that that people will be interested and willing to step up and help us out to get this done,” Maree said.

Some days have already been scheduled for anyone that is able to help with clean up. The first clean up day is Sunday, August 18 at 2 p.m., weather permitting.
