DUBOIS, Pa (WTAJ) — Over the past three seasons a first round playoff losses has ended the season for DuBois. They are a team itching to get over the hump. Despite the postseason berths, they haven’t had a winning season since 2016.

The Beavers lost thousand yard rusher Garrett Nissel, who will be tough to replace, but DuBois may fill that void not with another running back, but by turning to the air. Trey Wingard returns under center and there is reason to be optimistic about the junior quarterback. At his best he threw for 300 and 400 yards in a par of games last season before suffering an ankle injury. His arm could be the perfect compliment to the Beavers rushing attack.

“Balanced. We need to be able to you know, obviously it’s very difficult to win a football game with. I’ll be able to run the ball,” said Wingard. “So I think if we can run the football, that’s going to help some of our passing scheme. So I would love to be balanced.”

“We have a strong receiving corps,” said senior wide receiver Nathan Kougher. “We need to work on just not thinking and playing fast. And adapting to what we need to adapt to so our quarterback can get us the ball.”

Key Losses: Garrett Nissel (RB/MLB) Kaden Clark (WR) Zachary Gallagher (C/DE)

Key Returners: Trey Wingard (QB) Danny Dixon (RB/MLB) Nathan Kougher (WR)

The Beavers averaged just shy of 30 points per game last season with Wingard in the lineup including a week one shootout against Karns City. Those two meet again in week four.
