EBENSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — On Sunday, a farm in Ebensburg spent the day celebrating its history.

Hogue Farm, located at 3624 Munster Road was recognized by Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Bureau of Farmland Preservation as a Century Farm. It stems from their Century and Bicentennial Farm Program.

According to the department’s website, Pennsylvania leads the nation in the number of farms and acres permanently preserved for agricultural production. The program guarantees a future food supply and contributes to a healthier economy.

Even though the farm was recognized as a century farm, it’s a little older than that. This is Hogue farms 159th year.

“I guess I’m pretty excited. It’s been in the family since 1865, and just get up and do it every day,” Ronald Hogue, Owner of Hogue Farm said.

To celebrate the occasion, the owners of the farm held an informal gathering for anyone to attend. People had the option of bringing a dish and joining the celebration to share stories and make new memories.

Is your farm eligible for the Century and Bicentennial Farm Program? See the State’s requirements below:
