Sportsbeat Preview: North Star Cougars

BOSWELL, Pa. (WTAJ) – Optimism is building around the North Star football program after having its first winning season in a decade last year. Cougars head coach Bob Landis believes the right foundation is in place for the program to turnaround.

“We laid some groundwork for the program,” Landis said. “One of our jobs is to identify what we’re doing well and build around that.”

Like many successful teams in high school football, replacing departed senior classes with unproven underclassmen is the way to stay successful and it is no different for what Landis is trying to do.

A big name that Landis will have to replace is Connor Yoder, his only starting quarterback in his tenure as North Star tenure. Meanwhile Connor’s little brother Kasey will be one of the players in the mix to fill the void under center.

“Different skill set between Connor and Kasey so we’ll adapt what we do based off of that,” Landis said.

Despite an influx of youth, North Star leaders have hopes that they’ll be able to have another strong season after finishing 7-4 last year.

“I want to see us compete. We’re a young team, I want to see (our underclassmen) actually try,” senior Maddox Foy said. “I want to see them actually try their best and see if we can get something out of that.”
