First Sportsbeat Game of the Week announced

CRESSON, Pa. (WTAJ) – The high school football season is finally upon us. The lights will be bright on Friday, teams will be kicking off for the first time this season and the taste of fall will be in the air.

With the first high school football games in Central Pennsylvania starting on Friday, it also means the return of Sportsbeat. One of the mainstays of the show is also back for another season – our Game of the Week.

Our first Sportsbeat Game of the Week for the 2024 season is a heavyweight showdown in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference between Richland and Penn Cambria. The Rams have won the previous two matchups by just one score.

Despite many key injuries, Richland finished last year with an 11-2 record and trip to the LHAC Championship Game. Meanwhile, Penn Cambria had a 9-3 record in 2023.

This year, both teams are expected to be contenders to win District VI and the LHAC as they both return many key players. Our full Game of the Week matchup breakdown will air on WTAJ News at 6 p.m. on Thursday and we will have live pregame coverage during Friday’s newscasts.
