BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Two men are facing charges after allegedly breaking into a Bedford County residence and taking off with two guns and other items.

Dalton Mallow, 24, and Travis Kurtz, 45, both of Everett, are charged with burglary, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief after state police were called to a residence in Monroe Township Aug. 16.

According to the victim, someone had broken into the residence and stole a shotgun, a rifle, a mini refrigerator, a compound bow and a DeWalt Planer. The items were valued at $1,100.

On Tuesday, Aug. 20, the victim went to state police with more information, charges show. He told troopers that he believed his cousin, Mallow, was the one who broke into the home. Police then went to where Mallow was living in Everett.

Upon arrival, police said they found Kurtz by the garage. According to the criminal complaint, Kurtz alleged that Mallow put a DeWalt Planer in the garage, where he said he had been staying the past few months. Kurtz then allowed police to search the garage, finding the DeWalt Planer and confirming it was the victim’s.

Troopers received a search warrant and when they returned to the house, they were met by Mallow. Mallow allegedly confessed to breaking into the residence, with Kurtz, about a month ago. According to the complaint, Mallow told troopers that he sold the rifle and Kurtz kept the shotgun for himself.

Mallow’s girlfriend told police that Kurtz gave her the shotgun the day before and she took police inside to where the gun was. Troopers said they confirmed by serial number it was the stolen gun.
