UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) – Penn State trustees discussed several items at their latest meeting, one being a request for more state funding.

The university wants to invest billions into infrastructure with its new capital plan, saying that many buildings are in need of an update – with some being over 50 years old.

The board is also now moving forward with a request for an increase of 40 million in state funding. They say PSU is not receiving as much aid as other state-related institutions.

“The $30 million would be spent on financial aid and student success, talent retention for faculty and staff, asset preservation and strategic investment in areas like engineering, IT, health care and education that are priorities for the commonwealth,” Senior V.P. for Finance and Business Sara Thorndike said.

The board approved the request unanimously.
