NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — A new parking reservation system is in effect at Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield for visitors on weekends and holidays.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) strongly encourages people going to the park this summer to reserve a parking spot up to 14 days in advance. Reservations cost $2 if you have a Connecticut license plate.

Study ranks Connecticut as nation’s 4th most ‘normal’ state

Once the reservations are filled, DEEP said no one will be allowed to walk or drive into the park.

This comes after a state law passed last year requires DEEP to develop a capacity limit. Once a park is at capacity, the legislation authorizes DEEP to close it to new visitors, whether they are entering by foot, boat, or vehicle.

When can I make a reservation?

The reservation system is now available for Squantz Pond State Park if you want to visit from May 18 through the summer.

    How can I make a reservation ?

You can secure a reservation for up to vehicles at a time at ReserveAmerica.com by searching “Squantz Pond” and going through the checkout process or calling toll-free 1-877-668-CAMP (2267).

How much does a reservation cost?

A $2 transaction fee per reservation will be charged in addition to the state park entrance fee, which is free for anyone entering the park in a Connecticut-registered vehicle.

The cost is $22 per out-of-state registered vehicle.

No cancellations or refunds will be issued, DEEP said.

What if reservations don’t sell out in advance?

Same-day reservations can be made online or at the park entrance gate until 3 p.m. on the same day you want to visit.

Once reservations are sold out, no additional visitors will be allowed to walk or drive into the park.
