    Connecticut swimmer wins 2 silver medals at Paralympics a year after shark attack

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut native Ali Truwit won two silver medals for Team USA at the Paralympic Games in Paris, just one year after surviving a shark attack .

    In the women’s swimming 400-meter freestyle S10 division on Thursday, Truwit finished in 4:31.39, breaking the American record. Canada’s Aurelie Rivard (4:29.20) won gold.

    She set another American record on Friday in the 100-meter backstroke S10 division.

    Darien swimmer who lost part of her leg in shark attack clinches Paralympic Games spot

    The 24-year-old Darien native and Yale graduate lost part of her leg last year when she was attacked by a shark while snorkeling in Turks and Caicos.
