A West Virginia woman is a new record holder after catching a fish in the Ohio River.

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced that Lauren Noble of Letart, WV broke a record that was held for 20 years.

Noble’s catch was a bowfin in the backwater of the Ohio River in Mason County.

Her catch weighed 10.60 pounds which beat a record held by Matt Stender. Stender’s bowfin weighed 9.25 pounds in 2004. Noble’s catch wasn’t a record for length. Her bowfin measured 30.19 inches. The record for length of a bowfin is 32.25 inches by  Donald Newcome III in a farm pond in Berkeley County.

Noble said in an interview that she released the bowfin back into the Ohio River after certification.
