Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack to reopen Sunday after Ohio River flooding

WHEELING, W.Va. — Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack has announced its reopening to the public following the temporary closure due to flooding of the Ohio River.

The casino will resume operations on Sunday at 4:00 pm, offering limited gaming and dining options.

The recent flooding forced the closure of the property on April 3, 2024, but after diligent efforts and support from emergency responders and team members, Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack says it is ready to welcome guests back.

“We are excited to reopen and welcome back our valued guests,” said General Manager Kim Florence. “The past few days have been challenging, but thanks to the dedication of our team and the support of emergency services, we are ready to resume operations.”

Upon reopening, the following limited amenities and services will be available:

• Slots and the Sportsbook will open at 4:00 pm.
• Limited food options will be offered from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
• Table Games will open at 6:00 pm.
• Our Regular Sunday kiosk promotion will extend to run until Midnight.

Officials say Live Racing, Poker, and the Hotel will remain closed until further notice. Additionally, guests should look in their email for closure Bonus offers to make up for lost offers.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone involved in the flood response efforts, particularly our dedicated team members, the City of Wheeling Fire and Police departments, Ohio County Emergency Management Services, and the Sheriff’s Department,” added Florence. “We also thank our loyal patrons for their patience and understanding during this time.”

Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack says it is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable gaming experience. Enhanced cleaning and safety protocols will be in place to ensure the well-being of guests and staff.

Additionally, Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack announces that the following upcoming entertainment events will be postponed until further notice:

• The Comedy Club at Wheeling Island Comedy show scheduled for Friday, April 12.
• The Nightrain – The Guns N” Roses Experience Concert scheduled for Saturday, April 13.

Officials say tickets purchased for these events will be honored on the rescheduled dates. Guests who prefer a refund may visit ticketweb.com or stop by the Lucky North Club.
