MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. ( WTRF ) – McMechen EMS will now have two staff members on duty seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Marshall County Commissioners approved $65,000 for McMechen EMS that is in escrow and can be drawn upon when needed.

The EMS team will service McMechen, Benwood and some of the Hilltop areas.

This stems from an issue presented to the commission earlier this year , when a member of the McMechen Volunteer Fire Department spoke about declining volunteer rates affecting their ability to respond to emergencies.

“With regard to recruitment and retention in volunteer fire departments and EMS right now, it is of the utmost importance that our residents are protected. And in case of some emergency, they can be they can be transported very quickly.”

Mike Ferro | Marshall County Commissioner President

Ferro says they worked with Benwood Council on this proposal and wishes McMechen EMS the “best of luck” during this transition.
