    Local commissioners approve $100,000 in funding for volunteer fire departments

    MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. ( WTRF ) – Marshall County Commissioners approved $100,000 in funding for three local volunteer fire departments during their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday morning.

    Dallas VFD is recieving $50,000 for a new truck, Fork Ridge is getting $25,000 for a new truck and Benwood VFD is getting $25,000 to update their safety/bunker gear.

    Commissioners say this money will come from the Truck Assistance Fund.

    Other updates at commission include the hire of a new deputy sheriff, Evan Mobley (Mow-blee) and updates on several county projects.

    Progress is being made on the Courthouse and Health Department projects and phase one of the Fire Hydrant project is near completions. Some of the aspects in this project included testing the flow and providing GPS coordinates to local first responders. Phase two of this project will look into what needs replaced.

    Marshall County commissioners also approved a bid of $40,325.84 for the purchase of a new ATV for Emergency Management.

    EMA Director, Tom Hart explained during the meeting that the ATVs are used often and have been an invaluable resource to ensure the needs of Marshall County residents are being met when responding to emergencies.

    The next commission meeting will be on Wednesday, June 5 at 9 a.m.
