SHADYSIDE, Ohio (WTRF) — There is literally no age limit when it comes to the love of the long-time tradition of the game of kickball.

On Saturday, dozens of area “kids” ranging in age from 8 to 38 had a great time taking part in the long-time tradition, and it was all for a great cause.

The 2nd Annual Alex Quinn Memorial Kickball Tournament took place at the little-league ballfields in Shadyside.

Five teams, including a team of second-graders, took part in today’s event, which honored one of Shadyside’s most accomplished high school athletes.

Quinn’s athletic accomplishments include being an Ohio State wrestling champion.

He passed away at age 26 back in April of 2021.

Today’s tournament helps fund the Alex Quinn Memorial Scholarship given to a four-year Shadyside athlete.

On the field, right now, we have ages from 2nd grade to one of my Dad’s friends, who is like 53. And that’s in the same game. It’s really fun to watch. They are just coming out to show their love and support for us and my brother’s memory. A lot of these people looked up to Alex. It wasn’t just me he motivated and inspired.”

Last year’s tournament helped raise $2,500 for the scholarship awarded to Quinton Gorby.

He will attend Ohio University to study finance.

Saturday’s event also included several raffles and a Chinese auction.
