CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WTRF) — West Virginia Governor Jim Justice’s financial problems, which may lead to the Greenbrier Hotel being sold at auction, came as a shock to many people.

However, in the financial sector, his problems with paying bills have reportedly been well known.

One financial analyst says the defaulted loan on the Greenbrier was just the latest, and most dramatic, example of a long series of financial problems with the Justice family’s various business ventures.

The Greenbrier is a massive resort and a national landmark, a wonderful place, and, you know, a great place for West Virginia. There have been several stories on lawsuits that are public record, such as that he hasn’t paid certain vendors at the Greenbrier for certain services rendered, and certain people have filed lawsuits to get their money.”

Jason Haswell, Managing Director, The Monteverde Group

Jason Haswell believes the best way for the governor to deal with his debts would be to disclose his assets and whether he is financially solvent.

He says transparency about his ability to pay would be a good first step toward clearing up his financial problems.

The Greenbrier Hotel is scheduled to go up for auction at 2 p.m., August 27, on the steps of the Greenbrier County Courthouse.
