Wheeling’s splash pad completed, testing and training needed before its turned on

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — Construction is completed at Wheeling’s splash pad next to Wesbanco Arena.

They’re now in the process of testing the pumps and training the arena employees who will operate the splash pad.

Officials say there is a bit of a misconception about this splash pad’s purpose.

This is not the type that many people have been envisioning.

It is more for viewing than playing.

It has LED lights in it so at night the lights will turn on to different patterns that will be reflected in the water squirts that are there. So it’s gonna be like I said if somebody wants to walk through it, they can, but as far as features that you would play at a normal spash pad at a public pool, that’s not what this is meant for. Uh you can walk through it but it’s also there for aesthetics.”

The city manager says if there’s an event at Wesbanco Arena, it will be on.

If there’s not an event, there’s a handle for people to turn it on if they want to see it.

Bob Herron says that as soon as the splash pad is tested and the operators are trained, it will be turned on.

He says you often see this type of water feature or fountain in larger cities.
