BARNESVILLE, Ohio (WTRF) — Barnesville High School’s Class of ’73 wanted to do something special for the 50th anniversary of their graduation.

At the same time, Barnesville Elementary School was refurbishing their playground.

It always had basketball hoops, but they weren’t good ones and were against the school building, not on a court.

Kids could shoot hoops but never actually play basketball.

So, the Class of ’73 purchased top-of-the-line basketball hoops.

We had several very good basketball players in our class, very passionate about basketball, and they said hey let’s do this, let’s go for the basketball court hoops. And we collected nearly $10,000 to do this project and we picked out, they are top of the line basketball hoops so the school said OK, we will put in a basketball court. “

Now as the concrete is being laid, students who come out for recess end up watching the construction.

That part of the playground will be called “Court 73.”

The hoops have arrived, but they have not been unpacked yet.

The project should be complete by September 26, when the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival opens.

And the Class of ’73 signed their name in the concrete.
