STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (WTRF) — The technology we’ll enjoy in 10 years relies on what our kids learn in math and science classes today.

And two teachers at Steubenville Catholic Central have been commended for helping to build those pathways to the future.

Tiffany Dobson and Megan Marshall, along with the school itself, have earned the Governor’s Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research.

They helped nearly 100 students take part in a science fair, learning the scientific method through experience rather than simply taking notes.

Some later showed off their home experiments at Belmont College.

Being able to participate in science fair and having this in the school really helps them. And hopefully eventually they’ll take it outside and do something great with it when they’re older.”

“My philosophy is great things just don’t happen. They happen because of great people. Great people like our staff here or our teachers and the students and the parents. And so it’s remarkable to be part of this award.”

Catholic Central’s technological options for students include a digital design class to construct the yearbook.

East Richland Christian School in St. Clairsville was also among the 40 awarded in Ohio, including 16 of its teachers.
