WEIRTON, W.Va. (WTRF) — Even with a booming shopping center, a business park and new residential space, Weirton has even bigger plans for Three Springs Drive.

A new conference center has been discussed since 2016 but is finally moving forward.

The Top of West Virginia Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Business Development Corporation are working with the city to develop behind the area’s three hotels.

The CVB says feasibility and economic impact studies are done or nearly finished, and they hope to give US-22 drivers even more reasons to stop at the Three Springs exit.

“We’re looking at it as an opportunity to bring in traffic from outside of the area, Pennsylvania, Ohio, other parts of West Virginia…we will be hosted there, too, as the visitor center once that’s constructed. But the primary purpose will be business type conferences and meetings.”

Rachel Keeney, Executive Director, Top of West Virginia CVB

The center will also be close to the ongoing Park Drive project, which will contain retail shops and apartments.

The CVB says shovels could be in the ground as early as 2026.
