New skate park coming to Vincennes

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — After four years of planning, a new skate park is coming to Lester Square Park in the upcoming months.

“We have done multiple evaluations and discussions about the state of this park, we decided that we will phase out all of the old and go with all new,” said Vincennes City Council President, Brian Grove.

With this skate park approaching its 20th year, the Vincennes City Council decided that it was time for a change. This new skate park is going to cost around $450,000 and will be a state-of-the-art concrete facility with a fishbowl, snake trail, along with some other obstacles.

Grove said that the company that is building the park is currently out of state completely another job, but they will be here within the next couple months. Once they are here, the park will be built within one to two months.

He said that he realizes that the council can only do so much in terms of making big changes, but he hopes that these quality-of-life improvements go a long way.

“That is what we have focused on, both the mayor and the council, they have worked together to improve the parks juristically,” he said. “That is why I take a lot of pride in this, and this is something that can directly help the kids out.”

The current skate park is still open and can be used until construction of the new park begins.
