VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The 2024 Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous is scheduled to return this weekend (May 25 and 26) at George Rogers Clark National Historical Park.

Mark Hill, one of the event organizers, joined David and Jen Monday morning on WTWO 6:30 Today to talk about the event, and what attendees can expect. You can see the full interview at the top of the page.

The Vincennes Rendezvous offers a variety of activities and vendors for attendees to enjoy.

    18th Century Trade Fair

“Watch as craftsmen demonstrate skills of the 18th century creating items that are both utilitarian and artistic,” according to the event’s website. “Visit merchants selling wares that would have been available to early residents. Witness entertainers performing shows and music from the early part of our country’s history. Food vendors create tasty dishes that will take you back in time. A full weekend of activities and things to do and see is awaiting your family.”

    Reenactment Battles

“The cannon belches a cloud of smoke,” the organization says on its website. “A sharp crack that sounds like thunder announces the presence of opposing forces on the battlefield. Soldiers advance from the woods and a few shots are fired. Both armies are soon joined by reinforcements and the shooting becomes almost continuous. Smoke drifts across the field till the armies become like ghosts through the mist. The cannon fires again adding its voice to those of the muskets and rifles. You are drawn in and begin to see a picture of what 18th century warfare was like.”
