PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A crash on Wednesday evening has left a Coatsville man dead.

According to a press release, Indiana State Police are investigating the intersection of US 40 and State Road 240 after a fatal accident that occurred yesterday. Preliminary investigations concluded that the crash occurred around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday. The release states Kent Smith, 67, of Coatsville, was attempting to head eastbound on US 40 from State Road 240. Smith in doing so failed to notice a pickup truck traveling westbound on US 40 driven by Charlie Slicer Jr., 59, of Quincy, Indiana. Police state that Slicer attempted evasive maneuvers but was unable to avoid the collision.

The force of the collision caused Smith’s Lexus to travel off the roadway and flip onto its hood before coming to a stop. Smith sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Putnam’s Coroner Office. The family was notified. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved.
