TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWVV) — The Terre Haute Children’s Museum is hosting Radio Day partnered with the Wabash Valley Amateur Radio Association on Saturday.

The event will include a variety of educational activities for families such as a scavenger hunt, morse code practice, a visit to “wave town,” to explore the different types of radio waves, and even the opportunity to operate a ham radio.

“Radio is everywhere in our lives,” said Laurel Fincher, program manager at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. “I hope (attendees) gain a deeper understanding of the technology in our everyday lives that you don’t even realize is there.”

Wabash Valley Amateur Radio Association’s President Kevin Berlen, says this is the perfect age group to educate.

“This is a perfect opportunity partnering with the museum,” said Berlen. “It’s the exact age group we need to be reaching out to, so it was basically a no brainer.”

Radio day will take place on Saturday, August 24th at the Terre Haute Children’s Muesum from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The event is included with museum admission.

“We’re hoping at the end of the day, they come away with a little better of an understanding of what we do and what it means to be a ham radio operator,” said the president of Wabash Valley Amateur Radio Association.
