TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO) — A 19-year-old tried to drive away from a traffic stop but he eventually crashed into the front porch of a home and was arrested, Terre Haute police said.

The incident happened at about 5 a.m. Monday when an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the intersection of S 13th St. and Poplar St. due to multiple infractions, including no activated headlights or taillights.

“The driver of the passenger car failed to stop, fleeing north on 13th St, disregarding multiple traffic signals prior to turning west onto Maple Ave,” police wrote. “The vehicle then lost control and struck the front porch of a residence in the 1100 block of Maple Ave.”

The man, 19-year-old Eric McIntosh, of Terre Haute, attempted to run away from the crash but was caught and arrested, officers wrote.

They added that he initially provided false information regarding his identity.

McIntosh had an active probation violation warrant for identity deception out of Decatur County, police wrote. He now faces additional charges, including resisting law enforcement, auto theft, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, possession of marijuana, and false informing.

A Terre Haute Building Inspector responded to the scene to assess the damage to the front porch of the residence.
