OAK HILL, WV (WVNS) – Election Polls are full with many casting their vote for their favorite candidate.

Election season is not only a time for voting, but a time for advertising as well. Whether it is commercials or signs lined up along the streets, candidates want to spread the word about their campaign.

With election season here, candidates are using advertising as a way of communicating with voters.

Commercials, signs, flyers – you name it, candidates are taking every avenue to spread the word about each of their platforms.

59News traveled to Fayette County to seek out opinions about these advertisements. What do people think about them? Are they useful? Overwhelming?

Fayette County resident Scott Perdue said he believes political advertisements do not show the bigger picture when it comes to problems in America.

“I just think a lot of the ads, they take a nugget of what’s going on in the zeitgeist, and take a magnifying glass to it and make it larger, and larger, and larger to create fear and trying to get votes”, said Perdue.

Advertising is one of the most popular ways to spread word about anything.

Perdue said advertisements are unavoidable due to the rise of social media.

“I mean, I don’t think there’s a solution to it because in this social media day, everything is Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook, you know. Everything is everywhere, we’re inundated in it and we’re drowning in it. I probably get three to five ads in the mail a week”, said Perdue to 59News.

With advertisements everywhere, this raises questions about the effectiveness and usefulness of them. Although some agree with their use, some disagree as well.
