OAK HILL, WV (WVNS) – House maintenance is something almost everyone has to deal with. However, one Fayette County resident, Scott Perdue, claims that after home maintenance, their insurance company dropped them from their coverage without notice.

It all started with the insurance provider, Nationwide, requesting that Perdue’s roof be either inspected, repaired, or replaced.

Perdue paid for the inspection and cleaning of the roof. After this process, he was informed that Nationwide canceled their coverage. Perdue said he followed their requests and believes the money spent was a waste since they were dropped from their provider.

“I don’t understand how they think we still need a new roof after I’ve submitted this. I’ve done everything that they said we needed to do. If I knew I needed a new roof, I would’ve just canceled the policy and moved on. I spent 650 dollars through this process to keep my insurance coverage,” said Perdue.

59News reached out to Nationwide by phone and email to try and get a grasp on their side of the story. As of May 8, 2024, there hasn’t been a response.

Perdue said someone has to stand up for those being taken advantage of.

“I feel like somebody has to advocate for the little guy. We’re so concerned with other things and what about just every people trying to live day to day in a humble environment. [My mother’s] on a fixed income, I’m on disability. We’re not rolling in it. We can’t pay 6500 dollars for a new roof,” said Perdue to 59News.

Perdue said his mother was with Nationwide for over 20 years with no issues.
