HINTON, WV (WVNS) — Monday, May 20, 2024 was National Rescue Dog Day, and the Summers County Humane Society showed out with some adorable pooches!

What do you do if you see a fawn alone?

Board member and dog foster parent Gayle Rancer is in the process of adopting their current foster dog, Gigi.

Rancer said that adopting a rescue dog, or even fostering, is one of the best decisions that you could ever make.

“[M]ost of the dogs that come in are loveable. We haven’t met a single dog that we haven’t loved, and they are the most grateful dogs that you can ask for. They know that they’re getting a second chance and they give so much love in return,” said Rancer. “This is the most gratifying work I’ve ever done in my entire life.”

Rancer and her husband, Steve Lilly, have fostered 29 dogs to date. Rancer says that foster parents are needed now more than ever and asks that you reach out to your local shelter to volunteer.
