BECKLEY (WVNS) – All four Raleigh County high schools hosted graduation ceremonies over Memorial Day weekend.

Independence High School seniors had their graduation ceremony at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.

The ceremony started at 10:30 in the morning on Saturday, May 25th.

Liberty High School and Woodrow Wilson High School seniors also graduated on Saturday, May 25th. Shady Spring High School hosted their ceremony a day prior, on Friday the 24th.

Caelyb Nichols, Independence High School graduate, said throughout his struggles, he is more than happy to be walking across that stage.

“I wrecked a dirt bike, was in a coma for a while,” Nichols told 59News. “I almost lost my life to it but I’m here. I’ve been a wrestler my whole life and gave it up because I wrecked that dirt bike. I wasn’t the same person I was. It was just a struggle getting here but I’m here and I’m glad I am.”

Nichols said he plans to be an electrician after graduation.

He said his advice to his underclassmen friends is to stick to it and don’t give up.
