HINTON, WV (WVNS) — The Summers County Solid Waste Authority is asking for volunteers for their Bluestone Lake Clean Up.

West Virginia ranked second best place to retire to in the country

For this clean up, the focus will be on the water and on the shorelines.

The Solid Waste Authority is asking for volunteers, but also anyone who would be willing to lend them a watercraft in order to clean up floating debris.

Zack Kelly, Director of the Solid Waste Authority, said there is a lot more debris out there than some people may think.

“Any of the floating debris, like we notice a lot of the time the netting or like, torn up tubes will kinda be floating along the side of the shore. Bottles like to float around in there. There’s a lot of tires on the shorelines.” said Kelly.

Kelly said the Solid Waste Authority will partner with the Summers County Fire Department and the New River Conservancy for this clean up.

He said they will be launching from the Pits Road Boat Ramp between 8 A.M. and 9 A.M. on Saturday, August 17th.

Equipment for the clean up will be provided.

At the end of the clean up, a cookout will be held for volunteers courtesy of the Solid Waste Authority.
