HINTON, WV (WVNS) – A major drug bust was made in Summers County and one man is being charged in relation to this bust.

On the night of Thursday, August 8, 2024 the Summers County Sheriff’s Office received information on a wanted individual’s whereabouts.

While they did not find the wanted individual after arriving on scene, they did make arrests.

One of the individuals arrested was Hinton resident Clinton Adkins.

Chief Deputy Tim Adkins said Adkins is being charged by the Summers County Sheriff’s Office in relation to drugs that were recovered.

“Several deputies from our department traveled to a residence to search for an individual who had been wanted, who we’ve been looking for, for quite some time. While the deputies were on scene, they observed an individual through the window bagging up what appeared to be a large amount of drugs,” explained Chief Deputy Adkins.

Chief Deputy Adkins told 59News they recovered what appears to be fentanyl and a substantial amount of money after the arrest.

Based on witness’s comments to the deputies, law enforcement believe the drugs to be fentanyl.

Chief Deputy Adkins also spoke about how this drug bust relates to the bigger drug problem in the county.

“Even when I started law enforcement, prescription pills were largely abused. It just seems like, through time, drugs that you think people would not have done, they are doing every day, several times a day. Right now, we are just taking it one step at a time to get rid of the problem – whether that be getting your bags off your individual users or eliminating drug dealers off the streets for periods of time. Any time we can do that is a win for us,” said Chief Deputy Adkins.
