Dry start turns unsettled with afternoon storms; showers possible into weekend

Thursday sees a frontal system stall out across West Virginia and Virginia. This will lead to some afternoon convection, mainly for the mountains, but not much activity in the morning. Mostly sunny skies on the morning commute turns partly cloudy as temps push into the 80s. Expect storms to be slow moving, which could produce some locally heavy rainfall. In addition, the strongest of storms could produce strong wind gusts and hail.

Thursday evening continues with the chance for pop-up storms, mainly across the eastern mountains. The occasional heavy downpour and slick roads will be something to watch for on the evening commute. Showers should diminish gradually into the overnight, turning partly cloudy with some patchy fog possible in areas that saw showers.

Friday brings in a dry and sunny start of the morning commute. Enough breaks in the clouds through lunchtime will get temps in the middle to upper 80s later in the afternoon. After enjoying some breaks, the heat and humidity will cause isolated/scattered showers to form up so don’t forget the umbrella if you plan to enjoy some HS football!

Saturday brings in a cold front but morning travels to start the weekend should be in good shape with temps in the 60s/70s. As our cold front moves in during the afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected. Locally heavy rainfall also looks possible at times as showers linger into the overnight.

Sunday morning will start with isolated showers around the region so expect a soggy trip to church. Afternoon will continue to see hit or miss showers, and a few thunderstorms, but rain chance are expected to decrease as our front departs. Cooler air should start to move in, causing temps to be in just the 70s.

    Our Interactive Radar

Labor Day Monday is trending on the dry side as a high pressure system is expected to build in up to our north. A few clouds will help with the occasional sun glare during the morning commute, but cloud cover should erode away by dinnertime. Cooler air once again keeps us mild throughout the day with highs in just the 70s.
