ROSEVILLE (WWJ) -- Police are looking for a gunman who shot a driver during a road rage incident, Friday morning in Macomb County.

According to Roseville Police, the two drivers involved were traveling along I-94, between 8 Mile and 9 Mile roads, when one driver fired a single shot at the other driver.

The two drivers kept going, continuing onto westbound I-696 to Groesbeck where around eight more shots were fired into the victim's car.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of at least one gunshot wound, but is expected to be OK.

The shooter fled the area, police said.

Asked about what led to this shooting, Roseville Police Chief Mitch Berlin called it a case of "pure road rage."

"One cut the other off, they started jockeying for position along 94, and then a shot was fired, allegedly, and then multiple shots were fired up here," Berlin said, talking to WWJ's Charlie Langton and other reporters.

Police have closed the westbound I-696 Service Drive near Hayes Rd. and Groesbeck, as the investigation continues. The westbound 696 exit to Groesbeck was also blocked.

As of 9 a.m., police were still searching for the driver who fired the shots. There is no description at this time.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area to allow police to do their work.
