The average cost of a cookout in Massachusetts

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer and also the official start to grilling season but what will your cookout cost you?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Massachusetts ranks slightly higher than the national average for the cost of a cookout for 10 people. BLS calculated retail food data which states the national average of $89.41 is up 3.6% from last year.

A plate for each person consists of the following:

• 4 oz. cheeseburger with lettuce, onion, tomato, ketchup, mustard, and bun
• Hotdog with bun
• Serving of baked beans
• Serving of potato salad
• Serving of potato chips
• Serving of strawberries
• Serving of vanilla ice cream
• Serving of cookies
• 12 oz of soda

It would cost a minimum of $90.33 to feed a party of 10 in Massachusetts. According to the data, the cost increased 12 percent from 2022 to 2023.
