ORANGE, Mass. (WWLP) – One of the three women injured by a falling tree in Orange on Friday has been released from Athol Hospital.

Three injured by fallen tree on Maple Street in Orange

The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. when a tree, slated for removal, unexpectedly fell on a parked car outside 24 Maple St. The three women were seated inside the vehicle when the accident happened, according to Orange Police Chief James Sullivan.

Chief Sullivan reported that one of the women suffered “significant life-threatening injuries.” Initial response by Orange Police and Fire found two of the women unresponsive, though one later regained consciousness. The three women were swiftly taken to Athol Hospital with injuries ranging in severity.

“The tree had been pulled off by other people in the house before we got there,” Chief Sullivan stated. “One woman, who has a little girl, has significant life-threatening injuries.”

The second woman remains in stable condition and the third is in critical condition, according to Northwestern DA’s Office.

Due to high winds, medical helicopters could not be deployed, as noted in a statement released by the Orange Fire Department. Instead, ambulances were utilized to get the women to the hospital.
